House of Koyo by CD is an ultra-premium brand celebrating the art behind Japanese Tea Culture. Develop a fully immersive and elegant package design for Ceremonial Grade Matcha, which also epitomizes key characteristics identified with House of Koyo's brand personality: traditional, refined, and sophisticated.
Design Concept
It drew inspiration from the serene landscapes of Japan, as embodied by the striking illustration of Mount Fuji with traditional architecture. The calm feeling that this creates, together with the echo of cultural heritage depicted visually, is really reflective of the essence of matcha-a drink ritualistic and refined in nature.
Key Design Elements
Illustration A tailor-made illustration featuring Mount Fuji with a view of Japan in order to emphasize more authenticity and depth into culture.

Typography A harmonious mix of modern serif fonts with clean readability, exuding elegance and refinement.

Color Palette Earthy tones with shades of green, brown, and beige to connect with the natural roots of the matcha while retaining a premium outlook.

Materials Conceptually designed with eco-conscious packaging in mind, the materials ensure aesthetic appeal and sustainability.

Front Design The minimalistic layout is all about the premium quality of the matcha, with a "Ceremonial Grade Matcha" label very well present in the middle.

Informational Details Description of the clear product, its origin, and benefits are included to educate the consumer without interfering with the balance of the visuals.

Product Display The package includes individual matcha sachets and a sleek, reusable container to make it functional for customers.

Objective and Outcome The aim of this project was to bring together traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern packaging trends in order to elevate the customer experience. It invites the consumer not just to buy a product but to immerse themselves in the ritual of matcha, celebrating its rich umami flavor and its connection to a centuries-old tradition.
The result is a packaging system that protects and presents the product while telling a compelling story of craftsmanship and cultural heritage.
